British artist Veronica Ryan becomes Spike Island's first exhibitor of 2021

Spike Island's gallery space returns with the eagerly-anticipated exhibition Veronica Ryan: Along A Spectrum, exploring processes by which objects and artwork carry and construct meaning.

Known for her sculpture and examinations of shapes, forms and objects from the natural world, British artist Veronica Ryan's new work includes cast forms in clay and bronze, sewn and tea-stained fabrics and vibrant crochet pieces using natural materials.

The artist's biggest and most ambitious exhibition to date, Along A Spectrum looks at environmental and socio-political concerns, personal narratives, history and displacement, as well as the wider psychological implications of the pandemic.

Produced during an extended residency at Spike Island's studio space, many of the pieces incorporate fruit seeds, stones, skins and packaging to allude to a history of global trade and Ryan's personal relationship with her birthplace of Montserrat.
