The Magnetic Fields at Colston Hall Bristol from 31 August to 1 September 2017
The Magnetic Fields: 50 Song Memoir at The Colston Hall in Bristol from Thursday 31 August to Friday 1 September 2017.
The Magnetic Fields present a live showcase of their brand new album 50 Song Memoir. Written by illustrious songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stephin Merritt, each of the album’s fifty songs commemorate a year of his life, particularly documenting his relationships with art, music and love over five decades. With seven musicians each playing seven instruments, the band will perform 25 songs of memoir each night in their typically spectacular style.
The Magnetic Fields is the flagship project of prolific American songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stephin Merritt. Spanning a number of genres and unashamedly leftfield, Merritt has long been celebrated for his intricately conceptual songwriting, translated into eclectic arrangements by the band and maintaining unpredictable and sardonic lyrics at the core of the music.
The band have released eleven studio albums to date, the most notable of these being 1999’s triple album ’69 Love Songs’, which, containing exactly what its title describes, stretches to over three hours long. Other albums include ‘i’ (2004), on which all the songs begin with the letter (or pronoun) ‘I’), and 2017’s ’50 Song Memoir’. Merritt also numbers among his creative projects The 6ths, The Gothic Archies and Future Bible Heroes.
