Spektor who was born and brought up in Soviet Union, started learning piano when she was only 6 years old. Then her family moved to New York City, where she did not give up the piano. She went to Purchase College where she studied Conservatory of Music and graduated with honours. During her teenage she wrote some pop songs and made debut in 2001 with 11:11 which was a collection of songs in jazz and blue styles. After writing songs in 2002 and having Soviet Kitsch in 2004 her first commercial launch was in 2006 with her fourth LP, Begin to Hope. This album was gold-certified and includes singles ‘Better’, ‘On the Radio’ and ‘Fidelity’ which reached in Billboard Hot 100 chart. The fifth album “Far” came in 2009 then came the What We Saw From The Cheap Seats in 2012, and both of them came in Billboard 200 chart.
Not only this, her singles came on various TV shows and movies, like Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother, The Good Wife, Orange is The New Black, Weeds, Veronica Mars and 500 Days of Summer. In Obamas she was also there and was also a guest at White House and was also a part of philanthropic campaigns for Doctors Without Borders, Tibet and many more.
