An amateur production of Les Misérables is heading to The Bristol Hippodrome from 13-16 August 2025 and tickets are available now.
Following an extensive and exciting audition process, the cast for the highly anticipated UK amateur premiere of Les Misérables at the Bristol Hippodrome this August has been announced. Presented by BLOC Productions in collaboration with Bath Operatic and Dramatic Society (BODS), Bristol Amateur Operatic Society (BAOS), Bristol Musical Comedy Club (BMCC) and Weston Operatic Society (WOS), the production is set to showcase the incredible talent of the Southwest on the iconic stage.
More than 700 people registered their interest to audition for the production, with the final cast of 142 selected after stiff competition and some tough decisions for the audition panel.
The production team is delighted to announce that David Bryan originally from Cornwall and Lewis Oatley from Frome will share the role of Jean Valjean.
With a double casting of the principal cast, the production will run across four matinees and four evening performances from Wednesday 13th – Saturday 16th August 2025.
Philip Hallworth, Chair of BLOC Productions, expressed his excitement stating ‘We are all honoured and thrilled to have this wonderful opportunity to bring the phenomenon that is Les Misérables home to Bristol in our new amateur production! Staging the show, known for its ongoing success in the West End and on tour, presents a rare chance for local performers to partake in this bucket list opportunity with the support and guidance of the show’s esteemed West End and international creative teams.”
Cameron Mackintosh commented: “The phenomenon of LES MISÉRABLES continues to break new ground, just as Victor Hugo’s novel has since it was first published in 1862. The world’s longest running musical was first made available to students under 19 (in an edited schools edition) in 2002, to mark the bicentennial of Victor Hugo’s birth. As we approach the extraordinary landmark of the 40th record-breaking year of the iconic musical’s London run, alongside countless productions around the world, we are delighted to invite 11 of our leading amateur companies in the UK to stage, for the first time, the entire show in their own productions. This will involve many hundreds of amateur performers around the country, becoming part of our own yearlong celebrations. The success of this much-loved musical was famously made by the public - not the early critics – so what better way to enjoy this unprecedented event, than Let the People Sing!”
‘Let the People Sing’, a nationwide initiative from Cameron Mackintosh and Music Theatre International commemorating the 40th anniversary of this legendary musical, will feature 11 community-wide productions of Les Misérables: Let The People Sing in cities across the United Kingdom later this year.
