Bryan Ferry at Colston Hall on Wednesday 25th April 2018
Frontman of Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry CBE is a northern singer-songwriter with a unique vocal style considered one of the most iconic and innovative singers and lyricists in popular music. He studied Fine Art at Newcastle University, which is where he came into contact with British Pop Art founder, Richard Hamilton, who became an important influence on Ferry’s artistic vision.
As Roxy Music’s singer, lyricist and principal composer, Bryan Ferry defined the Roxy Music style in a way which was at once iconic and artistically profound. As well as the success of his band, Ferry also released solo albums throughout his time with Roxy Music. In 1982 Roxy Music was put on hold, and Ferry continued his solo career, but nearly 20 years later they reformed. The band toured, but didn’t record anything new.
In 2012 Ferry released an album with the jazz ensemble he founded, The Bryan Ferry Orchestra. Ferry wanted to see how his music worked without vocals. The band plays his work in a distinctive ’20s jazz style.
