Nigel Pearson's team welcome struggling Derby County to South Bristol

Bristol City v Derby County at Ashton Gate on 4 December 2021

Catch Bristol City v Derby County at Ashton Gate Stadium in this EFL Championship fixture on 30 October 2021. Kickoff is at 3PM.

City begin their busy Christmas schedule hosting Wayne Rooney's Derby County in South Bristol. Last season saw two differing results for The Robins with the first fixture being a 1-0 win at Ashton Gate, Famara Diedhiou making it three wins in a row for the home side. The reverse fixture saw the same result reversed as Colin Kazim-Richards scored the only goal within the first five minutes. Nigel Pearson will be looking to improve on this last result by taking advantage of a struggling Rams side.

Bristol City Football Club - The Robins

Bristol City Football Club, nicknamed ‘The Robins’, are currently playing their football in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football. Their home ground is Ashton Gate Stadium and has recently been rebuilt, giving it a capacity of 27,000.

City go into the 2021/22 season under new manager Nigel Pearson aiming to improve on last season's disappointing 19th place finish that saw them tumble towards the relegation zone. The Robins have had a mixed start to the season and currently sit comfortably mid table. Pearson appears to have given the team a far more solid spine thanks to the signings of ex-Leicester midfielder Matty James and exciting young ball playing centre back Rob Atkinson. However, the jury is still out amongst City fans with the poor home form that began under Lee Johnson yet to change.

BRISTOL CITY FOOTBALL CLUB HISTORY

Founded in 1897, the club achieved their highest league finish of Division One runners up in 1907 and two years later played in their only major cup final, losing 1-0 to Manchester United in the FA Cup. The club last played in the top-flight of English football from 1976 to 1980.

The 2006-07 season saw the club win promotion to the Football League Championship after finishing second in League One. The following season Bristol City narrowly missed out on Premier League football losing to Hull City in the Championship play-off Final. Having been relegated back to League One after the 2012-2013 season when they finished bottom of the table they were promoted back to The Championship in 2015 and have maintained their second tier status ever since.

The clubs honours include twice being winners of Football League Trophy in 1986 and 2003, the 1934 Welsh Cup and the 1978 Anglo-Scottish Cup when they defeated St. Mirren.
