City welcome in form AFC Bournemouth to Ashton Gate
Bristol City v AFC Bournemouth at Ashton Gate on 16 October 2021
Catch Bristol City v AFC Bournemouth at Ashton Gate Stadium in this EFL Championship fixture on 16 October 2021. Kickoff is at 3PM.
Scott Parker’s AFC Bournemouth will be aiming to go one step further than last season’s playoff final appearance and have begun this season in strong form - currently sitting comfortably in the automatic promotion spots. In contrast to this promising start, The Robins have been inconsistent, particularly at home, and this matchup against The Cherries will prove a stern test. However, there is hope for City in the form of last month’s 1-1 draw with newly relegated Fulham. Last season, City were narrowly beaten by Bournemouth in both matches. The first, played at The Vitality Stadium, saw The Robins lose 1-0 thanks to an Arnaut Danjuma strike. In the return fixture at Ashton Gate, Tyreeq Bakinson’s first half opener was cancelled out by Junior Stanislas before Carter-Vickers found a late winner as Nigel Pearson’s side lost 2-1. This fixture will be a tough test for Bristol City, but players and fans alike will be desperate to put an end to the poor form that has loomed over Ashton Gate for the past two years.
Bristol City Football Club - The Robins
Bristol City Football Club, nicknamed ‘The Robins’, are currently playing their football in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football. Their home ground is Ashton Gate Stadium and has recently been rebuilt, giving it a capacity of 27,000.
City go into the 2021/22 season under new manager Nigel Pearson aiming to improve on last season's disappointing 19th place finish that saw them tumble towards the relegation zone. The Robins have had a mixed start to the season and currently sit comfortably mid table. Pearson appears to have given the team a far more solid spine thanks to the signings of ex-Leicester midfielder Matty James and exciting young ball playing centre back Rob Atkinson. However, the jury is still out amongst City fans with the poor home form that began under Lee Johnson yet to change.
BRISTOL CITY FOOTBALL CLUB HISTORY
Founded in 1897, the club achieved their highest league finish of Division One runners up in 1907 and two years later played in their only major cup final, losing 1-0 to Manchester United in the FA Cup. The club last played in the top-flight of English football from 1976 to 1980.
The 2006-07 season saw the club win promotion to the Football League Championship after finishing second in League One. The following season Bristol City narrowly missed out on Premier League football losing to Hull City in the Championship play-off Final. Having been relegated back to League One after the 2012-2013 season when they finished bottom of the table they were promoted back to The Championship in 2015 and have maintained their second tier status ever since.
The clubs honours include twice being winners of Football League Trophy in 1986 and 2003, the 1934 Welsh Cup and the 1978 Anglo-Scottish Cup when they defeated St. Mirren.
