Bears welcome Saracens to Ashton Gate

Formed in 1888, Bristol Bears Rugby Club (previously known as Bristol Rugby) has a rich history in English rugby. The team is based in South Bristol and competes in English rugby’s top tier, the Gallagher Premiership. The club experienced notable success in the early 20th century, winning the County Championship in 1909.

The Bears faced financial challenges in the late 1990s, resulting in relegation to lower divisions. However, the club made a triumphant return to the top-flight in 2018 after securing the Championship title.

Under the ownership of Steve Lansdown (also owner of Bristol City), Bears have undergone an astonishing transformation. The club, based at Ashton Gate, has become a formidable force in English rugby, reaching the playoff semi-finals in the 2019/20 season. Led by director of rugby Pat Lam, the team has attracted top talent, including international players.
