Founded in 1996, Design West is a centre of excellence for design and placemaking based in Bristol. Their mission is to inspire the public, politicians and professionals across the built environment to design better, healthier places to live, work and relax. A registered charity, Design West was previously known as The Architecture Centre & Creating Excellence.
Design West's programmes aim to inspire, inform & involve people in the world of design, working across sectors and society to innovate, co-design and challenge. They carry out educational work, working internationally and locally, bringing the best people together to shape better places.
Through various projects, Design West aim to empower the next generation to shape the future of successful cities, towns, high streets and green spaces.
If that's not enough, they also boast their own art deco café bar bringing a taste of Europe to Bristol’s historic harbour. By day, The Architect is a warm, welcoming haven on the quayside, serving coffees, teas and sourdough sandwiches — the perfect place to meet or take a quiet moment to read and work.
By night, The Architect is a sophisticated bar with signature cocktails, fine wines and craft beers, served alongside cheese and charcuterie boards. In summer, the terrace catches the evening sun with a unique view of the water, passing boats and the lively festival culture!
