An adult education centre, cafe, bar, live music and events venue on Park Street
The Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre that provides a variety of part-time day and evening courses and workshops for adults, while also creating a welcoming environment in which to explore creativity, learn new skills and engage the local community.
The in-house cafe serves up a range of fantastic organic food and is the perfect spot to get together before and after classes. It is, of course, also open to the public and is a relaxed and friendly space, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Bristol City Centre.
Full of organic treats, the Folk House menu changes daily but always boasts a range of soups, mixed salad plates, homemade tarts and toasties as well as a delicious daily hot bowl special (curry, chilli, tagine, pho, pasta etc). Most meal deals include a thick slice of freshly made bread with butter (or vegan spread) and, to top it there is a tempting selection of cakes to suit all your sweet tooth and dietary needs. Vegan/veggie options are always available.
Live music and festivals take place at The Folk House throughout the year with everything from Irish folk to traditional Coastal African sounds and rhythms, as well as a plethora of markets, talks and exhibitions.
The Bristol Folk House is part of a charity and receive no funding from the government, the city council or any other institution with income wholly derived from course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising events.
The centre opened in the 1870s with the aim of supporting access to education in the community and the first programme of activities was produced for the academic year 1920-1921.
