Christmas Carpet Clean fundraising for cancer charity Penny Brohn UK in BristolPosted on: 13 Nov 2017
A professional carpet cleaner is launching a charitable Christmas Clean Campaign to remember his mum who passed away from cancer.
Susan Moore, of Bristol, was diagnosed with breast, lung and bone cancer in November 2016. The 66-year-old underwent gruelling chemo but, to her family and friends’ shock, died on April 29 – three weeks after telling them it failed.
Susan benefited from Pill-based cancer support charity Penny Brohn UK and her husband Colin, 71, still benefits from its groups and community choir.
Their son Lee, who owns Ashton-based carpet cleaning company LDM Services, is launching a Christmas Clean to thank Penny Brohn for their “brilliant support during the devastating time”.
Lee, 48, of Bristol, said:
“We were all so shocked – mum showed symptoms, but it was all so fast. We were devastated when she said chemo had failed and mum was gone very quickly afterwards. She always spoke highly of Penny Brohn’s support and dad still uses their free services, enjoying being with people going through similar circumstances. I wanted to do something to thank them for everything they’ve done – mum truly enjoyed her time there.”
Lee will clean two domestic rooms, stairs, landing and hallway for £65, with 20 per cent going to the integrative cancer charity if BS postcode residents quote “Penny Brohn”.
Commercial properties are by quotation and the campaign runs until January 31.
With over 36 years’ experience, Penny Brohn understands that cancer impacts everything and the number affected is increasing.
Its Bristol Whole Life Approach supports people with cancer and close supporters to participate in their health and wellbeing, and find the resources to thrive, before, during and after treatment.
It explores areas such as diet, exercise, relationships and managing stress, through free courses, one-to-one therapies, groups, a Treatment Support Clinic and national helpline.
