Upcoming Comedy Picks at the Colston Hall in Bristol 2017-2018

Posted on: 10 Oct 2017

The Colston Hall rarely disappoints, and the next few months of comedy favourites gracing the stage are sure to be a hit. With many varied offerings, from surrealist humour to spoof news, there is something for any degree of decerning comedic taste. Have a look below at our picks...

Milton Jones - 25th October 2017 - GET TICKETS HERE

Milton Jones is Out There. No, really out there and this time he hasn’t just forgotten his keys. He’s holding up the mirror of truth to society, and he can see right through it, which means its probably just a window. In his brand new show he’ll be putting his foot down and lifting the lid on the pedal bin of lies of the media. He will also be scaling the heights of fashion at the risk of falling into a terrible cravat. Milton will be talking about his life so far – the ups, the downs and why buying his own see-saw was the best decision he ever made. But perhaps he should give all this up and seek the highest office in the land – but how do you get a desk and a swivel chair up a mountain? Oh and now he wants to be Prime Minister too. Can we do worse than the politicians we already have? Yes we can!

With his wacky attire and electric shock hair, Milton Jones is best known for his deadpan, slightly neurotic but superbly crafted one-liners. With multiple series of his Silver Sony Award winning radio show behind him, BBC Radio 4’s Another Case of Milton Jones, his well of “daft yet perfect” gags (The Guardian) is showing no sign of drying up anytime soon.

Simon Amstell - 10th November 2017 - GET TICKETS HERE

Following a series of critically acclaimed, sold out international tours, Simon Amstell begins his fifth stand up tour in the UK.  ‘What Is This?’ promises to be a deeply personal, funny exploration of beauty, intimacy, freedom, sex and love.

Also known for his work on TV shows Carnage, Grandma’s House and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, he has won two British Comedy Awards, an RTS Award, a Broadcast Award, a Chortle Award and has been nominated for a BAFTA.

Greg Davies - 13th December 2017 - SOLD OUT - check social media or phone box office on 0117 2034040 for returns!

“The extremely likeable ex-teacher still knows how to hold people’s attention. Though now he is doing it with lessons in puerility,” says the Evening Standard. Greg is, of course, the writer and star of Channel 4 sitcom Man Down and Bafta-nominated star of BBC Three comedy Cuckoo. New show You Magnificent Beast follows 2013’s The Back of My Mum’s Head, which was described as “absolutely hilarious throughout” (Buzz Mag).

Ed Byrne - 8th March 2018 - GET TICKETS HERE

Top stand-up and TV panel favourite Ed Byrne returns to Bristol with another ‘seamless and perfectly timed show’ (Sunday Times). Hailed as a comedian ‘at the height of his powers’ (Observer), Byrne is a regular face on Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You and Live at The Apollo among many others. His latest, ‘artfully crafted’ (Arts Desk) offering asks the question, is life really all that bad or are we just a bunch of spoiled brats?

Jonathan Pie - 30th March 2018 - GET TICKETS HERE

Following his sell-out London tour, frustrated news reporter Jonathan Pie delivers “a staggering tour-de-force of righteous visceral rage” (Chortle) in his new live show. Back and angrier than ever, Pie embarks on a “blisteringly brilliant” (The Scotsman) take-down of British politics and an evening of searing satire. Described by Rory Bremner as “the most exciting satirical creation since Partridge”, Pie “combines the brilliant characterisation of Al Murray the Pub Landlord with the radical anger of Mark Thomas” (Sunday Herald).

Jonathan Pie is a respected News reporter for a respected News broadcaster but he has a problem. He has several problems. He hates his job. He hates his colleagues. But mainly he hates the News. At his shows he hilariously reveals the truth behind recent News events both home and abroad and one imagines he’ll be venting plenty of spleen in the process, almost guaranteed to be accompanied by some strong language.

Jason Manford - 12th May 2018 - GET TICKETS HERE

He’s back! It’s been a while since Jason Manford last performed at Colston Hall but fans of his Absolute Radio show will know this nationally acclaimed comedian hasn’t changed a bit.

‘Muddle Class’ promises to feature a wealth of new material about Jason growing up ‘working class’ then finding, over the years, that part of him has become ‘middle class’ – causing much confusion!  Delivered with Jason’s amiable charm and captivating wit, this is a show not to be missed.
