Bristol's very own indie pop group The Blue Aeroplanes will kick-start a monumental UK tour to promote the release of their latest album 'Welcome, Stranger!' when they play a highly-anticipated full hour set at The Fleece on Friday 16 December 2016.

Actually, it's often difficult to pin down their exact sound - precisely the reason they've remained so interesting and enduring - and their mix of folk, rock, punk, poetry, art and dance has influenced an impressive range of top, iconic bands such as Radiohead and REM.

With almost thirty albums, several UK Top 40 and US Alternative Top 10 hits to their name, their 1990 album Swagger was voted Rock Album Of The Year by a raft of revered publications, while ex-band members have gone on to play for the not-inconsiderable likes of Placebo, Goldfrapp, Primal Scream and Massive Attack.

'Welcome, Stranger!' is their twelfth studio album - released on Friday 6th January 2017 - and utilizes the talents of original members Gerard Langley (poet/singer), drummer John Langley, dancer Wojtek Dmochowski, Gerard Starkie, Chris Sharp - bassist and actual owner of the city's very own legendary The Fleece - and guitarists Bec Jevons and Mike Youe.

Still as vital and relevant as they were during the 1980s with their unique brand of speak-singing and guitar-riffing, songs on their new album explore such diverse and delightfully esoteric topics such as seagulls eating your chips, the existential nature of Elvis festivals, relationships, the death of Lou Reed and, of course, that most weighty and profound of all musical subjects, the universe.

Famously banned from the late, immortal Lemmy's drinking haunt The Rainbow Lounge (that alone, for which you've got to love them) yet amusingly, somewhat paradoxically, welcomed with open arms to play at the Hay-On-Wye Literary Festival, The Blue Aeroplanes' homecoming gig launches what is guaranteed to be one of the most eagerly awaited and monumental comeback tours of 2017.

This event has already sold out, but that doesn't mean you can't catch them at one of the many other venues they're performing at when they tour around the UK next year.
