Our rating:

The St Pierre Snake Invasion are that sort of band that you can?t help but love. They draw you in with clever songwriting and musicianship that would make most Kerrang-TV favourites blush.

Full disclosure: I was too late to catch Adam Betts and I had to leave before Future of the Left came on. Nobody is more disappointed about this than me but TSPSI were salve to my wounds as they brought the house down.

The St Pierre Snake Invasion are that sort of band that you can’t help but love. They draw you in with clever songwriting and musicianship that would make most Kerrang-TV favourites blush. That’s the way of the music-business in 2016 and it’s both a blessing and a curse: it doesn’t afford them the riches they deserve but it does keep them both humble and angry…perfect for us punters.

Front-man Damien Sayell guides us through song after song of intense yet danceable (it’s a word, shut up) music that puts a smile on the face of even the most dour of music-listening attendee. He picks holes in the veneer of pointlessness that we now live through and facilitate these days thanks to reality TV, talent shows and the 'music by numbers' that Radio 1 puts out during the day. This is no more evident than in the exquisite ‘If the only way is Essex you can kill me now’.  He bustles about the stage in a way that evoke thoughts of a carrot-topped Mick Jagger. The man himself is as much a part of the show as the music.

On this evening they played a catalogue of songs that covered every base and would no doubt be a tough act to follow. Well, that, or they’re the perfect warm-up act if you think you’re good enough to follow. I know that Future of the Left absolutely are and I’m heartbroken I had to leave before they came on.

So for now I’ll leave you with the details of this band and how to find out more about them. They’re worthy of your time and they’re on tour. GO AND SEE THEM. If you don’t have a good time then come back to me and I’ll send you a Lion Bar to say sorry. Head over to tspsi.co.uk and check out their Facebook and Twitter.
