We arrived shortly after opening, and the cafe already had a buzz of conversation and lots of tables filled, so be sure to head down there early to bag your spot for what is now one of my favourite brunches in Bristol

If you’ve travelled through Stokes Croft, you’ve probably seen The Crafty Egg. With its floor to ceiling windows, and stained glass panels, it’s one of the most beautiful buildings in the area. Inside, the cafe is bright and sunny, with simple, clean decor.

We ordered coffees while we looked at the menu; an almond latte (£2.50) for me, and a flat white (£2.50) for my husband. It’s hands down the best almond latte in Bristol!

The menu features eggs aplenty (all in the range of £5.50 – 7.50), but there are lots of other options too, from The Crafty Egg’s take on a classic Full English, a veggie breakfast, bagels and a whole board of avocado options. Meat-eaters, vegetarian and vegans all have a plenty of options with a flexible and varied menu, with a comprehensive list of add-ons to customise your meal.

I went for the avocado toast (£5.50), which is mashed avocado on toast, served with lemon, coriander and pomegranate seeds. I loved the addition of the pomegranate seeds; the little bubbles of sweetness worked really well. It was the perfect breakfast for a sunny morning. To add eggs on top is £1 for one egg and £1.50 for two.

Simon went for the breakfast (£8.50) which had a sausage, bacon, egg, mushrooms and spinach, potatoes and spiced tomato sauce. On the side, beans, toast and butter. Everything on the plate was really tasty and the twists on the classic (the mini roasties, and the spiced tomato sauce) made it stand out from the crowd.

With both the things we had, I loved the clean, fresh presentation and the focus on simple dishes done really well. If you’ve got any room after brunch, on the counter there’s a selection of homemade cakes and other sweet treats.
