In true Bristolian speak – the weather was gert lush, so we decided to pack up the children and dodge the balloon fiesta chaos to visit Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall, Bristol. We have been to the city zoo on numerous occasions and it’s good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s only so often you can see the same Black Widow in a toilet. We wanted to see something new and like most 2-14 year olds they love animals, so off we went to Noah’s Ark – and it didn’t disappoint!

The grounds are huge – it’s like that scene from Jurassic Park when they are stuck in the tree, from the entrance you can see everywhere. In the distance are the rhinos, elephants and giraffes and you’re instantly aware you’re going to have a good time. Then it happens – with so much on the map the argument kicks in. One wants to go to the tigers, youngest wants the guinea pigs and eldest is searching for the barn owl. So they all agree on the climbing area (it’s not as if we don’t have a park two minutes walk from our front door) but they all got fully involved in a huge climbing frame with swings, slides and other fun stuff while myself and the trouble and strife tucked into a Cornetto.

In all honesty the park is brilliant with such a variety of animals. The ‘zoo’ side of things is very open with larger animals – camels, alpacas, lions, etc who seem to have a lot of space, which is so important. So many of my friends boycott animal parks due to the animals being stuck in small enclosures but at Noah’s Ark the animals have a large area to roam freely. The ‘farm’ part is situated at the back of the ‘Death Slide’ which in itself was a joy as the other half rolled down. The farm is more hands-on allowing the children to hold ferrets, rabbits and other cute stuff. We had the opportunity to ride on a tractor and touch a snake - things that add a little extra to your visit.

Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is a great family day out on the edge of a big city; it has done lots for the environment and does sterling work with the Children’s Hospice South West which sits on its doorstep. With the weather so perfect it was a fantastic way to spend the day with the family. With so much to do there wasn’t one tantrum or whining moment, which is always a great sign. Get involved folks it’s a great family venue.

5/5
