A packed Bristol Hippodrome audience had a welcome assault to their senses last night when 40 fantastically talented performers took to the stage for Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games.

Lord of The Dance: Dangerous Games at The Bristol Hippodrome

The spectators of the 20th anniversary celebration of this immensely popular production were completely blown away with this opening night as lights, video footage, costumes, violins, a flute and a beautifully trained singer were thrust into their faces.

As part of the UK tour 2017, this unforgettable and overwhelmingly polished stage show is in the city until this Sunday and it's easy to see why not many tickets are left.

The crowd simply couldn't tear their eyes away from the events that were unfolding in front of their eyes; my own mouth literally fell open as I couldn't believe how fast and slick these dancers were. You literally felt tired watching them and we all were in awe.

This show is created, produced, choreographed and directed by Michael Flatley and he clearly is an exceptional teacher. They all made each flawless sequence look so easy; but we all knew we would land on our faces if we tried out what they were doing with their magical feet.

There was something very mesmerising about this show; as the accompanying backdrop video footage on the giant flat screen took us on a journey of good versus evil - of light against dark.

It was full of a mix of traditional dance with more up to date moves and it worked seamlessly well. The cast are all shining stars and the forever changing outfits were all eye catching (especially the one that consisted of just underwear and tights for the women, which felt a bit misplaced and unnecessary.)

The music, which was composed by Gerard Fahy, was the perfect accompaniment to the various different scenes and the dance moves that came with them. The sounds provoked a range of emotions in me; sometimes it was eerie and at other times it was calming.

Having never seen the original Lord of the Dance show, which premiered in London, or this current updated version when it first started in 2014 - i really had no idea what to expect. But now i have been a witness to it; i can confidentially say that i really do get what all of the fuss is about. I will definitely be there when they next bring their tour to our city.

Bristol, grab a ticket whilst you still can. Shows continue until Sunday 30th April 2017 at The Bristol Hippodrome. Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 7.30pm with an additional matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
