As we walked in to the Clip 'n Climb venue in Bristol we were very impressed with the huge amount of work that has been done to get the new space open for kids.

We were greeted with a very warm welcome and given the tour. The venue looks absolutely amazing. Set in a warehouse in St Werburghs, the space is split into two distinct areas – one for adults and more experienced climbers and the new part for kids. Both are really colourful and inviting and what struck me immediately was the fact that everyone in the place had a smile on their face and you could tell was having a good time.

It was half term and my son had a friend coming around for a sleep over…the plan was to get the kids exhausted! So it was myself, my son and his friend, both aged 8, and my daughter who is 5.

The kids’ area has 10 climbing walls, boulders and a leap of faith to try out! All the walls have 3 levels of climb that you can try out. The more difficult ones require that you only use certain foot and hand holds to get to the top.

We were given the low-down by our instructor Sergio who had all the harnesses ready and after a short explanation of the rules and how things worked we were allowed to go for it. All climbing walls have an inertia reel attached to the top which we were connected to so as soon as you let go of the wall you float slowly back to the ground. It gives a real sense of security.

There were 4 instructors on the floor who assisted with connecting you up and I must say that they were fantastic. Really friendly and had lots of patience and advice for which routes you could take.

Our favourite 4 were:

The Timed Wall - see how fast you can climb up it to press the button at the top – your time is recorded for all to see on a digital timer.

The Crate Stack - Plastic crates placed on top of each other in a spiral – This one was great to race each other on as two people can climb at the same time, one either side.

The Dark One! - Enclosed and almost pitch black – this felt like climbing in a cave.

The Leap of Faith - Climb to the top of the big red and white crane and try to jump off as far as you can to catch the massive punch bag. THIS WAS SO EXCITING.

Clip n Climb Bristol Review 2015

The session lasted for 1 hour and by the end of it we were all pretty tired. It is physically more demanding than I thought it would be. It was time for a coffee and a juice in the café (also a licensed bar).  The kids were absolutely buzzing and were already asking to come back again.

Clip and Climb is a must! The staff were brilliant and matched the excellent facilities. We will be coming back again very soon. In fact I am going to take my daughter and her friends there for her birthday next moth. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

5/5
