Renowned for their bittersweet, immensely honest love songs accompanied with whirlwind guitars, The Wedding Present is all set to perform at The Fleece in Bristol on 24th of November 2016. The year 1992 saw them leveling Elvis Presley’s record for most hits in a year as they went on to release 12 singles i.e. one every month; thereby securing 18 songs among the UK Top 40 singles in the subsequent years.
Taking a long break of around 8 years, the band decide to go ahead with the tour of UK, North America and Continental Europe thereafter releasing El Rey in 2008 and then Valentina in 2012. Since their inception around 20 years ago, The Wedding Present has been authentic and has been loved as Britain’s topmost and highly acclaimed alternative band.
The Wedding Present hasn’t played the record industry’s game but has been keen towards the exploring different styles ranging from Eastern European folk music (on their major label debut on RCA) to being sound engineer Steve Albini’s aid when everyone else during that period was focusing on 'Madchester' dance.
John Peel goes to the extent of saying that “The boy Gedge has written some of the best love songs of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Era. You may dispute this, but I’m right and you’re wrong!”
