Silent Comedy Gala at Colston Hall in Bristol on Friday 26th January 2018

Slapstick Festival is a Bristol based silent and visual comedy festival held annually every January (Since 2005!) It’s aspires to give new audiences a unique and often once in a life time opportunity to see some extraordinary comedy films in unique circumstances. We showcase and celebrate archive film predominately from the silent era (1895-1930), accompanied by live musical scores performed by world class musicians, and introduced by some of the most prominent film historians, experts, and comedians inspired by the comedy legends on screen.

Previous festival guests reads like a who’s who of British comedy including, Eric Sykes CBE, Victoria Wood CBE,  Michael Palin CBE, Stephen Fry, John Cleese and Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders.

Combined with more recent and contemporary visual comedy film and work from neglected comedy artists from past decades, we aim to broaden our audience base, inspiring peoples interest in onscreen visual and classic comedy from over the last 100 years.

The Kagools

Originally created by comedy duo, Wilkinson Ford (Claire Ford “Simply outstanding and has changed my views and opinions on characters, clowning and female acts in general” – Adelaide TalkFringe, and Nicky Wilkinson, Finalist ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ and ‘New Act of the Year’ 2013 “Effortless likeability and an excellent comic timing” – Chortle), as recurring characters in their full-length sketch shows, The Kagools proved so popular with audiences that in 2013 the pair shifted their focus to developing shows featuring them exclusively. Wilkinson Ford became The Kagools and never looked back.

Since then, they’ve toured both in the UK and overseas to critical acclaim.

European Festival appearances have included: Edinburgh Fringe, Leicester Comedy Festival (where they so impressed festival director Geoff Rowe that he personally invited the duo to appear at the Festival’s grand finale show ‘Comedy Heaven’ at the 800-seater Curve Theatre), ‘TouMAZEing’ International Comedy Festival in Stavanger, Norway; Lancaster Comedy Festival; Brighton Fringe; Bath Comedy Festival; Oxford Fringe; The Sure Festival of Comedy, Guernsey; The Balham Comedy Festival, London; The Great Yorkshire Fringe, York; The Buxton Fringe (where their shows have been awarded Best Family Show in 2015 and Best Comedy Show 2016), Liverpool Comedy Festival; Sheffield Comedy Festival and Deershed Festival, North Yorkshire.
