Our Country's Good at Alma Tavern in Bristol from 6-7 April

Our Country's Good will be there at Alma Tavern in Bristol from Thursday 6 April to Friday 7 April 2017

The first convict ship arrives in Botany Bay, 1788, crammed with England’s outcasts. Colony discipline in the vast and alien land is brutal.

To alleviate some of the stresses of the camp the ambitious Second Lieutenant Ralph Clark proposes putting on a play. As the mostly illiterate cast rehearses, and a sense of common purpose begins to take hold, the young officer’s own transformation is as marked and poignant as that of his prisoners.

Timberlake Wertenbaker’s modern classic, ‘Our Country’s Good’ celebrates the how the redemptive power of art helped to build a civilised society in this play based on true events.
