OMD at The Colston Hall in Bristol on Monday 30 October 2017

OMD will perform at The Colston Hall in Bristol on Monday 30 October 2017.

Pioneering synth-pop group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) return with their thirteenth album and a night of stylish synth-pop. Founded almost forty years ago by two teenage Kraftwerk fans, OMD’s early albums ‘Architecture and Morality’ and ‘Dazzle Ships’ shaped the dominant electro sound of the 80s.

Described by The Quietus as “one of the best bands ever”, OMD’s sound has influenced the likes of The xx, the Killers and LCD Soundsystem. New tracks like ‘Electricity’ and ‘Souvenir’ prove that the band’s “adventurous blend of drama and pathos” (Pitchfork) lives on.

OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark)  are a British new wave group formed in 1978 by Andy McCluskey (vocals, bass guitar) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards, vocals). They are credited as pioneers of the synthpop sound, and cultivated a musical identity based on experimental recordings which rewarded them with a reputation as an intellectual force, as well as gaining them a loyal fanbase. They gained popularity throughout Europe with the hugely successful 1980 single “Enola Gay”, and achieved broader recognition via seminal album Architecture & Morality (1981) and its singles.

Following a hiatus, the band reformed in 2006 and began releasing new material in 2009, and continued their ongoing trajectory with History of Modern (2010) and English Electric (2013). Despite limited mainstream support for their unconventional works, OMD have sold over 40 million records and carved a unique legacy within popular music as a highly influential act.
