Ian Prowse and Amsterdam live in Bristol

IAN PROWSE and AMSTERDAM + Cloudy Apple will play at The Thunderbolt in Bristol on Friday 7 April 2017.

Widely regarded as a Merseyside hero Ian Prowse has been the founder of two successful bands Pele and Amsterdam. 3 albums were released by Pele on Polydor/M&g Records. Pele also released six singles which were not so popular in UK but they were a hit in Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Holland and their single ‘Megalomania’ was a number one in South Africa. Pele also completed nine tours of the UK. Following this Ian formed Amsterdam and their first single for Beat Crazy Records ‘The Journey’ found a place in UK top 40 in February 2005. Another single ‘Does this train stop on Merseyside’ also hit the UK charts. Radio 1 DJ John Peel was very moved by this song and his widow after his death revealed that John always had a tear in his eyes whenever he played this song. The song also featured as a center piece of Irish legend Christy Moore’s latest album. Elvis Costello used Amsterdam as his backing band on the Jonathan Ross television show because of his long standing friendship with Ian. For the Liverpool Number Ones Project on EMI Records in 2008, Prowse collaborated with Costello for a duet cover of The Searchers 1964 hit ‘Don’t throw your love away’.

‘Arm in Arm’, the latest album of Amsterdam was voted 14th best ever album out of Liverpool by the local press which is a big feat considering the fact that the Beatles is also on the list. Their lead off single ‘Home’ was played on 21 consecutive days by Radio 2’s Janice Long. In 2012 Ian released ‘Does this train stop on Merseyside: The Very Best of Ian Prowse’ to rave reviews and in 2014 his first solo album ‘WHO LOVES YA BABY’ was released. Daily Mirror in its review said, “Rousing, inspirational rocking anthems and celtic soul finery”, while R2 Magazine quoted, “Dynamic, hugely enjoyable and ultimately uplifting”, Liverpool Echo said, “A Magnificent collection of songs”.
