Gregory Porter at Colston Hall in Bristol on Tuesday 3rd April 2018

Honey voiced Gregory Porter could have been a football player had it not been for a shoulder injury. Luckily for us he found solace in the music of Nat King Cole, donned his now trademark “jazz hat”, and started making music instead. Having released two albums on the Motéma label which earned him a couple of Grammy nominations, Porter signed to Blue Note records in 2013. His third album ‘Liquid Spirit’ was to be his breakthrough, winning the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Album, and melting the hearts of millions of fans in the process.

Singing songs from a bygone era – some, literally, like his cover of ‘The “In” Crowd’, and some that could have been written half a century ago or more like the soulful ballad ‘Laura’ – and always appearing immaculately dapper, they don’t come much cooler than Gregory Porter.
