DIY music venue, pub and hub just off Stokes Croft
Tucked away in Montpelier at the back a car park, you’ll find The Old England.
It’s a proper DIY music venue and pub; a place to indulge the city’s underground, alternative sound.
Both emerging and established talent from the local alt scene hang out here; they take part in open jam sessions and make noise at each other’s performances.
As for the music, it’s largely guitar-led and experimental, performed by fresh and raw artists. Expect to hear anything from art-punk to experimental jazz, to the odd late-night DJ set.
The gigs, which take place throughout the week, tend to be sweaty and raucous, thanks to the pub’s tiny (really tiny) performance space.
To see what's coming up, it's best to check out the venue's Faebook page.

Beer Garden and Pool Room
When the sun is out, The Old England’s terrace is somewhere you can sip a quiet pint away from the bustle of Cheltenham Road and Stokes Croft.
And for those chillier nights, head upstairs to The Old England's Pool room for a game.
2020 Album
As part of the UK’s #SaveOurVenues campaign of Spring 2020, The Old England released a compilation album: OLD E's Crowdfunding Collection.
Featuring a range of local artists who have "lived, worked, played, and drank" at the venue, the album is a collection of "mostly unreleased, old or demo material."
The venue described the album, which includes several notable names from Bristol's alt music scene, as: "a celebration of past times and a way to pass the time."
"Not a cohesive listening experience! These 29 tracks will drag you in wildly different directions with no discernible pattern."
You can purchase the digital album on Bandcamp.
