St Mary Redcliffe Church
St Mary Redcliffe is a beautiful Gothic masterpiece and a highly diverse parish in one of the more deprived areas of Bristol. It is home to a growing, inclusive congregation and has stood for over 800 years “as a witness to the glory of God, the skill of craftsmen and women, and the faithfulness of generations of Christians.”
The centuries-old structure is one of Bristol's most visually-astonishing buildings, built across from the city's original quayside and located on what later became Redcliffe Quay. The church is open daily for visits, reflection, prayer services, formal worship and more, and everyone is welcome.
The current St Mary's Redcliffe generation is a diverse community of old and young, rich and poor, Bristol-born and migrants to the city, Redcliffe locals and newcomers to the church, a variety of cultural identities and several different relationships and family circumstances. The church's emphasis on inclusivity is a reflection of modern attitudes towards compassion, and people with varying levels of physical and mental health are, of course, welcome at all times.
As well as religious services, St Mary Redcliffe also hosts several events, workshops and community classes throughout the year, ranging from a Beat Surgery drop-in run by the local police to Jazz performances and a community Gardening Group. You can find out all about those and much more via the church's website.
Entry to the church is free with a suggested donation upon entry to help with upkeep and maintenance. You can do this in church or click here to donate via Just Giving.
