In Bideford, North Devon in 1682, the final British witch trial took place. Three local women were accused of witchcraft, tried, and hanged. Now, fast forward to the present day and do your best to name one female magician…pretty tricky.

But, for the duration of this show, three fearless females will be climbing out of their boxes, shaking off their sequins and investigating the truth of what really happened in a small North Devon town over three centuries ago.

Jam-packed with magic tricks, physical comedy and music, Scratchworks’ magiciennes will explore the witch hunt mania that swept the country all that time ago, sending hundreds of innocent women to the gallows.

With mind-blowing illusions, monumental stunts, as well as the occasional disappearing rabbit, Hags sets the record straight for thousands of falsely accused women with all the joy, silliness and spectacle that these three performers can muster.

Scratchworks are a female-led theatre company based in Exeter who work collaboratively to produce thought-provoking, funny and heartfelt shows that inspire and empower adults and children alike through a feminist lens.
