Try your hand at ‘Beat The Wand’ – a stand-up comedy night with a difference

Posted on: 26 Apr 2023

Hosted by much-loved local comedian Dani Johns, 8 hopeful comedians have only 5 minutes to impress with the winner taking home a cash prize, but there’s a twist.

‘Beat The Wand’ takes place monthly at Bristol’s Smoke & Mirrors – the UK’s only Boutique Pub and Magic Theatre.

Think Britain's Got Talent’s golden buzzer but instead of going straight to the final, they go straight to the exit. Dreams can be shattered. Superstars can be discovered. Either way, Smoke and Mirrors guarantee a high-stakes night of entertainment is guaranteed!

Tickets are priced at £5 per person and can be found at the Smoke and Mirrors Box Office.

In a classic competition format, ‘Beat The Wand’ sees 8 hopefuls given a 5-minute slot to impress the crowd and the top contender takes home a cash prize. However, in an exciting twist, MC Dani Johns will choose 3 random audience members to be honorary judges.

Each judge will get a wand and, if they don’t think an act is up to scratch, they can raise their wand in the air. If all 3 wands are raised, the gong will sound, and the act must stop their performance immediately – brutal right.

Tickets for ‘Beat The Wand’ at Smoke & Mirrors are priced at £5 per person and can be found at the Smoke and Mirrors Box Office. The next competition takes place on Wednesday 3 May.

Bristol’s Smoke & Mirrors is the only Boutique Pub and Magic Theatre in the UK. Located on Denmark Street, just around the corner from The Bristol Hippodrome, it is a place of wonder, perfect for anyone who loves magic, good drinks and a fun atmosphere.

The perfect venue for a magical night out, Smoke & Mirrors is Bristol's number one attraction on TripAdvisor and has hosted some of the country’s most renowned comedians, from Russell Howard to Alan Carr, Jon Richardson to Romesh Ranganathan.
