The Cube are hosting a bumper 25 hour 25th birthday party this weekend

Join in the celebrations for one of Bristol’s most vital creative spaces as The Cube Microplex announce a silver themed anniversary like no other.

 

The Cube Microplex’s 25th Birthday 25 Hour Party will begin at 12 PM on Saturday 7 and run continuously until 1 PM on Sunday 8 October 2023.

 

The Cube’s 25th celebration has a little bit of everything. A Snooker and DJing legend will be cutting the event’s red tape, there’ll be a sci fi costume workshop, bands and DJs, an all-night movie marathon and much more! Don’t forget the dress code – silver/sci-fi.

12 PM on Saturday will see ribbon cutting and outdoor modular synth with the legendary Steve Davis at The Cube entrance on Dove Street South. Then, between 12 PM and 2 PM, the Nanoplex Costume Workshops will see attendees of all ages taking part in a sci-fi costume making workshop in the venue’s auditorium.

 

From 2 PM onwards, MR_HOPKINSON will be playing Cube video archives and looping them live. There will also be DIY t-shirt printing with a special Silver Cubeilee stamper as well as the chance to decorate the building with DIY décor just in time for the party.

 

At 4 PM there will be screenings for a carefully selected programme of DIY Cube documentaries, films and interviews from the last quarter century, set to a spacey soundtrack from bar DJs.

 

 

At 6 PM, the evening party really kicks off! There will be a screening of a made-in-the-day film, daytime DJs, expanded cinema from BEEF members, shows from improv duo Arvy Ethers and experimental three-piece Minor Conflict, late night DJs and more.

 

From midnight until dawn, attendees can settle down and enjoy a carefully selected film programme. This will start with a screening of space opera classic Flash Gordon (1980), followed by sci-fi western The American Astronaut (2001), a fine selection of Bluescreen shorts, “low-budget caper” Kim’s Video (2023) and, at 5.30 AM, a surprise film!

 

Sunday morning is a little more chilled out with a selection of spaced-out vinyl at sunrise, an 8 AM set from live band Am Snöwz, a morning drone from Liquid Library, Peter’s Psychedelic Breakfast at 10 AM, Cube Cola Lab at 11 AM and, at 12 PM, a tea, cake and chat from Bristol Death Café.

 

 

The Cube’s 25th Birthday 25 Hour Party runs on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 October 2023 and will end with a magnificent closing ceremony for a wonderful event. Secure your tickets HERE.
