Anything Goes is coming to Bristol as part of a tour around the UK after its roaring success at London’s Barbican following the reopening of theatres in the summer of 2021.
Indeed, with hit numbers such as ‘You’re the Top’, ‘Friendship’, ‘I Get a Kick Out of You’ and ‘Blow Gabriel Blow’ in tow and talented director and choreographer Kathleen Marshall involved, the production was always likely to prove a roaring success.
Speaking about her experience working on the musical, “How many hundreds of times have I heard these Cole Porter songs?”, she says, “I never get sick of them because they’re so smartly written. This show to me is like a wonderful gift. When you’re giving someone a gift you can’t wait for them to open it.”
If the celebrated show tunes aren’t enough, Anything Goes features a star cast of the highest pedigree. We Will Rock You and Wicked star Kerry Ellis (pictured below aboard the SS Great Britain) is playing the sassy evangelist-turned-nightclub vamp, Reno Sweeney.
Joining her will be iconic Olivier Award winner Denis Lawson (Local Hero and Bleak House) playing the role of hapless hoodlum Moonface Martin. Simon Callow (pictured below), of Four Weddings & A Funeral and The Witcher, fame plays Elisha Whitney – a Wall Street tycoon with bad eyesight who likes a drink.
Completing this experienced cast is musical theatre legend, Bonnie Langford (pictured below). Also featuring on the small screen in the likes of Doctor Who, Eastenders and Dancing on Ice, Langford will depict Evangeline Harcourt - an impoverished widow desperate to marry off her daughter into money.
Expect raucous scenes, tap-dancing sailors, heart-warming romance and everything to inevitably go wrong in this award-winning musical.
As well as Bristol, Anything Goes will visit theatres in Liverpool, Edinburgh, Dublin and Manchester before returning to London between June and September. Head to the production’s website to find out more.
