Known for their contemporary take on classic rock ‘n’ roll, Kings Of Leon are a family band made up of brothers Caleb, Jared and Nathan – plus cousin Matthew Followill. They formed back in 1999 after the brothers finally discovered rock while living in Nashville, following an evangelical upbringing and quite sheltered musical education.

Naming their band after their Grandfather, Leon, they signed to RCA in 2002 and released their debut EP, Holy Roller Novocaine. Kings Of Leon quickly won over swathes of fans with their early records Youth & Young Manhood (2003) and Asha Shake Heartbreak (2004) characterised by a retro, garage rock sound.

Their international breakthrough, however, came with a move to more accessible arena rock sound in the 2008 album Only by the Night, which birthed mammoth hits Sex on Fire and Use Somebody. The Tennessee-bred band continued this streamlined approach with subsequent records, Come Around Sundown, Mechanical Bull, Walls and When You See Yourself.

Kings of Leon’s next Bristol gig is this weekend, Sunday 23 June – a triumphant return to a city they haven’t visited for the last twenty-one years. They’ll be playing at one of Bristol biggest venues, too: Ashton Gate Stadium – ensuring this will be a massive event for fans and newcomers alike.

It’s a real continuation of form for the stadium, which seems to be cementing itself as a true jewel in the crown of Bristol’s musical fabric, with gigs like this one, alongside previous massive gigs, and events like BS3 Presents.

General tickets for the show are already on sale, and selling quick – so make sure to get yours as soon as possible. You can get tickets here.
