Get the kids active with Sports Week on BBC Bitesize, launching Monday 6 July

The kids won’t miss out on Sports Day 2020 thanks to BBC Bitesize. 

 

On Monday 6 July, BBC Bitesize is launching a ‘Sports Week’, a jam-packed week of interactive sporting activities which can be enjoyed at home.

 

The week will also feature advice from top sporting stars, and a virtual Sports Day at the end of the week, on Friday 10 July.

 

Expect sessions with Olympic medalists, book readings and an appearance from Liverpool FC’s Harvey Elliott.

 

Bitesize’s Sports Week can be accessed via BBC iPlayer and the Red Button.

 

So, what’s coming up? Here are some highlights from the jam-packed programme.

 

 

Kicking off the week will be Olympic cycling gold medallist Katie Archibald MBE who will be leading a session about balance, using household objects to improve core strength.

 

Paralympian champion Kadeena Cox MBE will also be drawing on her experiences to talk about resilience and how this can be used in sports and also in day-to-day life.

 

On the BBC Bitesize, the BBC’s lockdown educational platform, Sir Chris Hoy will be reading an exclusive first extract of his book, Be Amazing! An Inspiring Guide to Being your Own Champion, not out until October.

 

Hoy will be reading extracts of his book until Wednesday on the BBC Bitesize Daily Primary Book Club, suitable for ages 7-9 and 9-11.

 

On Tuesday 7 July, kids can improve their hand-eye coordination as English national women’s cricketer Fran Wilson shares her top tips in throwing and catching a ball.

 

On Wednesday, catch up with Olympic trampoline bronze medal-winning gymnast, Bryony Page.

 

Page will be showcasing fun, simple stretches and exercise to improve flexibility. She’ll also chat about dealing with nerves. Find out more about Page:

 

 

Fresh from their Premier League win, Harvey Elliott from Liverpool FC will be on hand to show students how they can improve speed and agility. Elliott’s session will highlight how a brilliant team player.

 

Then, on Friday 10 July, the Sports Week programme will culminate with its very own virtual Sports Day.

 

Activities from the week will be put together to create one big challenge as students are encouraged to take part in a nationwide virtual Sports Day against sports stars from the week and Bitesize presenters, Karim Zeroual and Radzi Chinyanganya.
