Bristol artists Grove & GUTTR feature in new Noods Radio video series

Posted on: 25 Jan 2022

The station's new project, GRIP, is capturing music videos from the unique perspective of the performers' microphones.

Bristol-based artists Grove and GUTTR have become the first to be featured in GRIP, a three-part Noods Radio video series created in collaboration with Double Vision Studios.

The innovative project uses 360-degree lenses attached to artists' microphones for intimate one-take recordings of live performances, using Double Vision's signature editing style to create ethereal, mind-bending visuals.

The first instalment in the GRIP series - a music video for Grove's 2021 track 'Bloodsucka' - premiered today (Tuesday 25 February), while GUTTR's entry, 'my b's emo', is due to land on Tuesday 8 February.

Speaking on the release of 'Bloodsucka', Grove said: “Bizarre, spinny and dutty is the flavour of this video, and is the seasoning blend I want to carry around with me eternally.

“Big ups to GRIP and Noods Radio for having me involved in this project, and to Big Mike for holding it down with the snaps.

“It felt like a crew creating something unified in the spirit of DIY - an unpredictable and powerful thing - with a beautiful (if you can call it that) outcome.”

Grove's two EP releases - Queer + Black followed by SPICE - in 2021 marked them out as a driving force for contemporary Bristol music, catching the attention of Resident Advisor, Mixmag and The Ransom Note among others.

Their track 'Bloodsucka' is a perfect opener for Noods' GRIP series, combining Grove's vocal urgency with the industrial backdrop of an abandoned highrise building in central Bristol.

Dropping next month, Bristol-based MC GUTTR's GRIP video for 'my b's emo' takes viewers on a trippy jaunt through an old Bristol Rovers social club, as fruit machines, darts and pub regulars skew in and out of the frame.

GUTTR's creative lyricism and effortless composure have established him as a Bristol artist to watch in 2022, taking inspiration from the city's dubstep history as well as contemporary grime and drill.
