Acclaimed Irish folk group set to play Bristol in 2023

Lankum have gained a worldwide reputation in recent years for their captivating approach to folk and the four-piece are heading out on tour in April.

 

Lankum will play Trinity Centre in Bristol on Friday 12 May 2023.

 

Presented by Bristol Beacon but hosted in BS2, the show will come as part of an eight-date tour of the UK and Europe in April and May including a sold out appearance at London’s The Barbican. Tickets are available for £20.35.

The band is made up of brothers Ian (uillean pipes, tin whistles, vocals) and Daragh Lynch (vocals, guitar), Cormac Mac Diarmada (fiddle, viola, vocals) and Radie Peat (harmonium, accordion, vocals).

 

Forming in Dublin as Lynched in 2000, Lankum have long been praised for their stunning ability to channel a diverse set of musical influences and histories to create a beautifully rare thing: a songbook from and for the people.

 

Their radically contemporary approach to Irish folk signed for Rough Trade in 2017 and, the same year, the group’s album Between the Earth and Sky was nominated for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year.

 

This critical acclaim continued as, in 2018, Lankum were named Best Folk Group at RTÉ’s Folk Music Awards with Peat being named Best Folk Singer and 2019’s The Livelong Day saw the band expand their dynamic sound even further.

 

The Livelong Day once more won RTÉ’s album of the year with various prestigious publications praising the band’s use of drone, psychedelia and vocal harmonies as well as their inventive approach to much-loved classics including ‘The Wild Rover and ‘Katie Cruel’.

Lankum are heading on the road in 2023 with shows in Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, London (sold out), Glasgow and Manchester as well as Bristol all scheduled. Visit the band’s website for more information.
