About Wendy James
Wendy James is a British singer-songwriter best known as the charismatic frontwoman of the late 1980s pop-punk band Transvision Vamp. Born on January 21, 1966, in London, she gained prominence for her rebellious image and energetic performances.
Transvision Vamp: Rise to Fame
Formed in 1986 by Wendy James and guitarist Nick Christian Sayer, Transvision Vamp quickly made a mark on the UK music scene. Their debut album, Pop Art (1988), featured hits like "I Want Your Love," which reached number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. Their follow-up album, Velveteen (1989), was even more successful, debuting at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and including the standout single "Baby I Don't Care," which peaked at number 3 in the UK and Australia.
The band's third album, Little Magnets Versus the Bubble of Babble (1991), faced challenges with its UK release, leading to its limited availability and contributing to the band's dissolution in 1991.
Solo Career and Collaborations
After Transvision Vamp, Wendy James pursued a solo career. In 1993, she released her debut solo album, Now Ain't the Time for Your Tears, with songs written by Elvis Costello. Although the album reached number 43 on the UK Albums Chart, it didn't achieve significant commercial success.
In the 2000s, James formed the band Racine, releasing two albums: Number One (2004) and Racine 2 (2007). She later returned to solo work, releasing albums such as I Came Here to Blow Minds (2011), The Price of the Ticket (2016), Queen High Straight (2020), and her tenth album, The Shape of History, in 2024.

Wendy James remains an influential figure in the music industry, known for her distinctive style and contributions to pop-punk music. As of 2025, she continues to create music and engage with her audience through various platforms.
