Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival at Colston hall in Bristol from Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th March 2018
From swing to funk, bebop to blues, Gypsy jazz to gospel, soul to rock ‘n roll, Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival never fails to surprise and delight music lovers. The festival’s genre-traversing line-up is a ‘This is Your Life’ of jazz and blues – a journey through the decades from the birth of jazz to the current day.
We’re thrilled to announce that Carleen Anderson returns to headline Bristol International Jazz & Blues Festival 2018 alongside Incognito to deliver a powerful performance of American soul.
This year’s line-up also features the return of guitar virtuoso Matt Schofield, sax legend and festival patron Pee Wee Ellis and his new quartet, a dazzling collaboration between acclaimed vocalist Polly Gibbonsand director of Ronnie Scott’s James Pearson, much-loved performer and broadcast Clare Teal with her Big Mini Big Band, a second dose of Cartoon Jazz featuring star singer Ian Shaw, a big band 50-year tribute to Hendrix’s masterpiece in Electric Lady Big Band, a lush weaving of improvisatory words and music from Snowpoet, a celebration of the sultry soundtracks of the 60s and beyond in Cult Fiction Live! Sounds from the Small Screen, performed by the same crack team as last year’s wonderful ‘Sounds for Spies and Private Eyes’ – and that’s just some of the music on offer.
Once again the festival presents a fascinating range of workshops from leaders in jazz and blues music from Matt Schofield, Chris Corcoran, Asaf Sirkus and Sylwia Bialis, Ian Saw, Pee Wee Ellis and Roberto Pla and Elpidio Alegria.
