Bristol’s CrimeFest convention kicks off tomorrow

Posted on: 10 May 2023

The annual crime fiction convention is returning to the city once more this week, yet again welcoming crime fiction fanatics and casual readers alike.

CrimeFest will run at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel between Thursday 11 and Sunday 14 May 2023.

Each year, CrimeFest draws in top crime novelists, readers, editors, publishers, and critics from all over the globe, giving all delegates and fanatics a unique chance to celebrate the genre in a friendly, informal and inclusive manner.

Passes are available from the CrimeFest registration desk at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel, find out more HERE.

The first of this year’s special guests is award-winning author Mark Billingham, best known for his novels detailing the gory career of London detective Tom Thorne - a series of books that has since been adapted into a Sky mini-series starring David Morrissey.

Billingham will be joined by Elly Griffiths, a genre favourite who has penned three series, one fea Ruth Galloway, one featuring Detective Inspector Edgar Stephens and Max Mephisto, and the Harbinder Kaur series.

Also returning to this year’s festival are Andrew Child (brother of Lee and co-writer of the iconic Jack Reacher series), award-winning author Vaseem Khan, word-of-mouth sensation Will Dean, Abigail Dean (a Sunday Times bestseller thanks to Girl A) and critically acclaimed writer Janice Hallett.

CrimeFest 2023 will also see a range of other crime fiction favourites in attendance with author, playwright, TV and radio producer Simon Brett; Canadian mystery writer Cathy Ace; author, critic and historian Martin Edwards and Crime Writers’ Association chair Maxim Jakubowski, who will also be hosting the returning Criminal Mastermind Quiz.

This year’s toastmaster and Inquisitor is journalist and author Peter Guttridge. Sponsored by Specsavers, the CrimeFest convention debuted in Bristol back in 2008, attracting readers, fans, editors, publishers, reviewers and fans alike.

CrimeFest will run at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel between Thursday 11 and Sunday 14 May 2023. Find out more about this year’s event HERE.
