The Coconut Tree announce special celebratory ‘eat for free’ offer

Posted on: 27 Apr 2023

The family-run Sri Lankan restaurant has this week announced a one-day-only offer to celebrate Vesak - the South Asian festival of light.

On Thursday 4 May, The Coconut Tree is offering customers an opportunity to eat for free and experience a traditional Sri Lankan Vesak Dansal Plate from 12 PM until 3.30 PM.

Vesak - the festival of light - is a vibrant, colourful celebration that is observed in Sri Lanka and, as part of the festival, Dansal stalls traditionally share food with the communities. The Coconut Tree understands that not everyone can travel to Sri Lanka to celebrate Vesak, so they’re bringing this delicious part of the festivities to its customers.

Visit The Coconut Tree website for more information.

To take part in The Coconut Tree’s Vesak offer, customers do not need to book in advance with the restaurant taking walk-ins only up until 5 PM when regular service is resumed. The offer is open to everyone, so bring your friends and family along and get involved in this special occasion!

The specially created Vesak Dansal Plate includes a variety of traditional Sri Lankan dishes, featuring Brinjal Moju, Coconut Sambol, Parippu (Dhal), Amba Maluwa, Sri-Tato, and Yellow Rice with Raisins. These dishes are prepared with authentic Sri Lankan spices and ingredients and are slow-cooked to the point of perfection.

In addition to this special plate, The Coconut Tree’s standard menu will be available throughout the day although not included in the eat-for-free offer. Customers can order from the regular menu as well as enjoy the traditional Vesak Dansal Plate.

Rashintha Rodrigo (co-founder of The Coconut Tree) has said of the offer: “We are excited to celebrate Vesak with our customers and bring a slice of Sri Lankan culture to the UK, It is traditional for Dansal, roadside stalls, to serve food free of charge during the Vesak Festival.

“We are delighted to share this tradition with our customers. We look forward to seeing everyone on the day and celebrating this special occasion together.”

With multiple locations throughout the UK, The Coconut Tree was born from a group of Sri Lankan friends who had a dream of bringing Sri Lankan flavours to communities across the world. Find out more about the restaurant and its Vesak festival celebrations from The Coconut Tree website.

The Coconut Tree is located at 237-239 Cheltenham Road, Bishopston, BS6 5QP.
