Grammy award winning reggae musician will be in Bristol next month

Scene favourite Kabaka Pyramid is currently embarking on a massive tour of Europe and the UK that will see him play Bristol’s Trinity Centre to a bumper crowd.

 

Kabaka Pyramid will be at Trinity Centre on Friday 7 April 2023.

 

Still reeling from winning Best Reggae Album at the 2023 Grammys for his critically acclaimed LP The Kalling, Kabaka’s UK stretch of shows will see him play venues in Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and London – where he’ll play a sell-out at iconic venue, The Jazz Bar.

One of the shining lights in the reggae revival movement, Kabaka Pyramid first achieved success in the Jamaican scene with the 2011 album, Rebel Music, which featured marquee songs such as ‘Free from Chains’ and ‘Warrior’ ft Protoje.

 

His hip-hop-inspired approach to reggae was immediately evident from his masterful lyricism and hard-hitting beats, laying the foundation for an astonishing career that has seen Kabaka collaborate with the likes of Chase and Status and Rudimental and, earlier this year, win the 2023 Grammy for his album, The Kalling.

 

Produced by Damian Marley (son of Bob), the fifteen-track masterpiece includes features from long-lasting collaborators including Damian himself, Protoje, Black Am I, Jesse Royal and new friends such as Buju Banton and Stephen Marley. 

 

A sophomore effort, The Kalling is a contemporary reggae record of the highest class, a clear statement on the part of Kabaka on the evolution of his craft. Speaking about the album, the artist has said:

 

“The Kalling is really about my journey in music being for a higher purpose, not just to get rich or popular, but to inspire a higher vibration in whoever listens. While the majority seek pleasure and sense gratification, there are a few who the Most High kall upon to keep the balance inna earth. Music is what I use to answer the kall and you can feel it throughout this album.”
