Born and raised in Northampton, Tyron Frampton earned his stage name because of his slow, slurred speech. slowthai first rose to prominence with 2016’s ‘Jiggle’, a single he originally released as a joke.

EP, I Wish I Knew, and single ‘Murder’ soon followed, followed with a slew of well-received singles, including ‘Doorman’, accompanied by horror-influenced music videos and several high-profile guest appearances with the likes of Flume and JD. Reid.

2019 saw the release of slowthai’s provocative debut album, Nothing Great About Britain. Including guests such as Skepta, Mura Masa and Slaves, the record features raw and emotional lyrics painting a grim picture of a broken Britain.

The album was praised for slowthai’s radical blend of grime and punk with rough yet compassionate lyrics displaying both wry humour and a degree of vulnerability. The record went on to breach the UK Top Ten and was nominated for the coveted Mercury Prize while the rapper also won Hero of the Year at the 2020 NME Awards.

slowthai’s sophomore album, Tyron, was delivered in February 2021, once more to widespread critical acclaim. Reaching number one in the charts, the album features prominent artists such as ASAP Rocky, James Blake, Skepta and Denzel Curry.

The rapper has so far released three singles from his upcoming record Ugly, which is set to be released on Friday 3 March. Presented by Rough Trade, slowthai will play Marble Factory on Wednesday 22 March.
