The much-loved tale of Simba the lion’s epic adventures as he struggles with the responsibilities of adulthood, loss and becoming king is brought to life in this magnificent theatre production using spectacular masks, puppets, and costumes.

Julie Taymor’s stage version of The Lion King opened on Broadway in 1997. Today, it has seen 25 global productions in 9 different languages and is the sixth longest-running West End musical of all time with the most recent tour breaking attendance records throughout the UK.

This stunning reinvention of one of the most successful Disney features of all time is perhaps best known for its aesthetic beauty, produced by a skilled design team who use diverse cultural influences to recreate the rich colours and vast expanses of the African Savanna.

Taymor is one of the world's most innovative and renowned directors, but The Lion King was her first musical in commercial theatre. It proved a staggering success as Broadway history was made when she became the first woman to win a Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical.

Disney's The Lion King is returning to Bristol yet again next summer with the usual hit-laden score in tow. The soundtrack of the animated classic has been expanded with Elton John and Tim Rice adding 3 songs to the original award-winning score. South African composer Lebo M has also lent a help in hand.

After a successful run earlier this year, The Lion King is back at Bristol Hippodrome from Thursday 18 May until Saturday 1 July 2023. General goes live at 10 AM on Friday 25 November. Grab your tickets HERE.
