Posted on: 14 Nov 2022

Bristol is set to be more Christmas-ey than ever this year with the unveiling of a selection of sparkling new Christmas lights.

The Bristol City Centre, Redcliffe & Temple and Broadmead BIDs have come together this year to bring festive spirit to all corners of the city.

Corn Street will see a love-themed light installation adorning the historic street with eight selfie-able love lyrics to be spotted, ensuring everyone in the city will be feeling the love (Bristol) this Christmas.

Bristol city centre will now be lit up after dark with Christmas light installations on key cultural hubs such as King Street, the Old City, Queens Road and Park Street. The latter will yet again be lit with stunning festoon lighting as it was in 2021, and this has been extended to Queens Road this year.

The Love Bristol disco balls also return to the streets outside the Clayton Hotel, Mother’s Ruin, Mr Wolf’s, Four Wise Monkeys and Queen Shilling. When the lights are switched on today (14 November), Bristolians can expect to see their city twinkling in seasonal glory once again.

Redcliffe & Temple BID’s sparkling tree lights are also bringing a taste of Christmas to Victoria Street and Temple Gardens as well as making the environment safer. Throughout Broadmead, the classic over-street Christmas lights will be joined by new canopies on Merchant Street alongside already illuminated sparkly tree lights on Union Street and The Horsefair.

You can also find On 20 November, as well as 4, 11 and 18 December, Broadmead’s highly successful, ethical Sunday market will showcase the best of Christmas gifts, including wreaths, handmade crafts and decorations.

Just in time for Christmas stocking fillers, the BIDs have also launched a new edition of the Love Bristol Gift Card that shines a light on the businesses that make the Bristol night-time economy so diverse and exciting. With hotels, theatres, restaurants, clubs and bars throughout the city centre featured, the Night Out Gift Card is sure to make the perfect present for the city’s night owls this Christmas.

The lighting schemes across the city centre utilise LED lighting fixtures and components which are incredibly energy efficient and have a longer lifespan than other traditional lighting features.

The lights will be switched on today, Monday 14 November.
