Cleve House School, located on Wells Road in Knowle, is inviting businesses and the local community to join their upcoming anniversary.

The special celebration of this landmark anniversary of the historic school is taking place this week.

All proceeds from the event at Cleve House School will be donated to a Ukranian support charity and there will be stands, art activities, music as well as a charity auction for attendees to enjoy.

The special celebration is free to attend and will take place this Saturday – 11 June. Head to the school and preschool's Facebook page for more information.

Cleve House School has educated the children of South Bristol in the same building since 1948, having been forced to move several times during the Second World War.

The building dates back to 1887 when it was known locally as ‘Lemonade Palace’ due to the house’s owner, Charles Beavis, running a large soft drinks manufacturer in Bristol.

After its intriguing beginnings, Cleve House has become a distinguished educational facility, adding a nursery in 1992. During the upcoming open day, there will be an opportunity for visitors to take a tour of the school and meet new headteacher Clare Fraser.

The event will also feature multiple local artisan craft stands, family games, live music, an anniversary collage and a charity auction featuring Bristol Rovers match tickets as well as a signed Bristol City shirt (pictured below).

Moreover, all funds raised from these activities and stalls will be donated to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal. Among the stallholders on Saturday will be Ukrainian national Serhii Shlapak, who operates a coffee and panini mobile catering van, normally situated on St John’s Lane.

Since the invasion of Ukraine, Serhii has taken in his sister-in-law and niece as refugees at his family home in Bedminster.

“I have been in the UK for around eight years and have worked as a chef and barista,” says Serhii. “My father, brother and other members of my family are still in the west of Ukraine, two hours from Lviv.

“Of course, the situation there is very worrying and my customers in Bedminster have been a great support, even placing a Ukrainian flag beside my van which now helps to attract new customers.”

Headteacher Clare Fraser has said of the free event: “We wanted to strengthen our links to the community even further by inviting local traders plus current and potential parents and pupils, to join us for a different kind of open day.

“It is important that our pupils understand the needs of others and what is happening in the wider world, and we are happy to donate all proceeds from our event to help people suffering in Ukraine.”

The Cleve House open day takes place on Saturday 11 June from 10:00 -12:30. For further information call 0117 977 7218 or visit the school’s Facebook page.
