Industrial hip-hop pioneers Dälek to perform in central Bristol

Posted on: 03 Jun 2022

In support of the delayed release of their acclaimed new LP Precipice, the seasoned New Jersey-based duo will play The Lanes later in June.

Dälek are bringing their atmospheric brand of hip-hop to venues up and down the UK throughout this month.

Forged In the fires of the East Coast underground music scene in the late 1990s, MC dälek and Mike Mare have gained a fervent fanbase due to their prolific and radical output over the years.

Tickets for the show on Tuesday 14 June are available to purchase here.

Dälek met in the mid-1990s during the height of the New Jersey DIY scene, officially forming as a four-piece in 1998. Since then (as a two-piece) they have spent decades carving out a unique niche in rap.

Their fusion of hardcore hip-hop, noise and radical approach to sound has proved a brutal sonic temperament that has succeeded in propelling rap’s capacity for noise and protest to new, exhilarating heights.

Following in the footsteps of the likes of luminaries Public Enemy and drawing influences from as far afield as My Bloody Valentine and German experimentalists Faust, Dälek are a group not afraid to challenge the confinements of genre.

Known for their powerful, visceral live shows, the duo have spent well over a decade presenting their blistering performance to audiences all over the world.

During this time, Dälek have played with a diverse array of artists in the hip-hop, rock, metal and experimental spheres, including De La Soul, Grandmaster Flash, The Melvins, TOOL and Flying Lotus.

In their most recent (and eighth) record Precipice, MC dälek and Mike Mare dig deep to unleash a work that bristles with power and fury. The 10-track album was reimagined during the pandemic as, according to MC dalek (pictured below), “it wasn’t angry enough; it didn’t say what it needed to say”.

Now, starting this week, Dälek are back in the UK on a tour that will see them head to Bristol’s The Lanes on Tuesday 14 June. Tickets can be purchased here.
