Posted on: 30 May 2022

Musicians will be touring the city this weekend as part of a unique Jubilee celebration.

Local professional orchestra, The Bristol Ensemble, are set to embark on an open-top bus tour of the city this weekend, marking the Queen's Platinum Jubilee on Friday 3 June.

'Busking on the Bus' will see the group tour communities across Bristol, playing family-friendly pop-up concerts in car parks, green spaces, playgrounds and more to celebrate the occasion.

The tour has been organised with a focus on reaching people in areas that may not usually have the opportunity to engage with classical music.

Stops are scheduled at St Peter's Church (Lawrence Weston), Blaise Castle car park, Ardagh Centre (Horfield), Rawnsley Park (Lawrence Hill), MHA Nursing Home (Hartcliffe), Asda Whitchurch, Filwood Community Centre and the M Shed.

The tour will get underway at 14:00, with the last performance scheduled for 18:45. A full breakdown of the bus route and performance times can be found on The Bristol Ensemble's website.

Speaking on the announcement of the tour, Roger Huckle, lead violinist and founder of the Bristol Ensemble, said:

“The Bristol Ensemble is excited to be visiting the communities that our education team Preludes is working in, and performing some great music so celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”

Charlie Watts, Communications Coordinator at Filwood Community Centre, added: “It's brilliant that the Busking on the Bus project will be booming its way into our area.

“Knowle West loves a good celebration, so we're excited to be marking the Queen's Jubilee with Bristol Ensemble musicians aboard an open-top bus. We can't wait for this music spectacle to make a stop in our part of the city.”
