Aardman to return with new Wallace & Gromit film in 2024

The beloved stop-motion duo's latest adventure will debut on the BBC before moving onto Netflix.

Aardman Animations have today (Thursday 20 January) announced that cult characters Wallace & Gromit will return for a new film in 2024.

The internationally-renowned studio will be setting to work on the sixth installation in the Wallace & Gromit series in the coming months, with the pair most recently appearing in A Matter of Loaf and Death on Christmas Day 2008.

The upcoming feature, the title of which is yet to be revealed, will be helmed by Aardman founder Nick Park and Wallace & Gromit creative director Merlin Crossingham, and is set to premiere on the BBC in the UK before moving onto Netflix.

Details of the new film are being kept largely under wraps for now, but its creators have hinted at a storyline that sees Gromit becoming concerned Wallace is a little too dependent on his inventions.

"When Wallace's 'Smart Gnome' develops a mind of its own," Aardman's website reads, "it falls to Gromit to battle sinister forces and save his master, or Wallace may never be able to invent again!"

Founded in the early 1970s, Aardman Animations have produced an array of beloved stop-motion characters over the years, from Wallace and Gromit to Shaun the Sheep, Feathers McGraw and Morph.

1989 saw the release of Wallace and Gromit's big-screen debut, A Grand Day Out, and the pair have starred in a further five full-length productions to date.

Aardman's latest announcement follows recent news of a long-awaited sequel to their hit 2000 film Chicken Run, set to star Thandiwe Newton, Imelda Staunton and Romesh Ranganathan and premiere on Netflix in 2023.
