Posted on: 19 Jan 2022

Watch and discuss Paul Thomas Anderson's latest film tomorrow night at Watershed.

Beginning at 17:40 this Thursday 20 January, the harbourside cinema will be hosting its latest installment of Deaf Conversations About Cinema, this week screening and discussing the coming of age flick, Licorice Pizza.

Essentially a love letter to the 1970s, the Academy Award-nominated director's (Boogie Nights, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood) latest movie follows two young high schoolers as they navigate the perils of first love.

Tickets for this event can be purchased via Watershed's website. The screening will contain Descriptive Subtitles and British Sign Language (BSL) will be used throughout the discussion.

The film, beginning at 17:40, will be introduced by freelance film writer and Watershed Box Office supervisor Sven De Hondt, and will contain Descriptive Subtitles for hearing impaired or deaf attendees.

Billed as 'a nostalgic, irresistible coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of 1973’s San Fernando Valley,' Licorice Pizza stars Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim as they set off on a journey through Hollywood.

En route, the pair encounter characters played by Bradley Cooper, John C. Reilley and Sean Penn in acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson's ninth film.

Following the screening, an informal discussion between audience members and De Handt will take place in Watershed's cafe and bar, hosted by deaf artist, performer and filmmaker, David Ellington.

The discussion, beginning at 20:00 will include BSL interpretation alongside a 10 percent discount on drinks for ticket holders.

Secure yourself some tickets via Watershed's website.
