Bristol label Spinny Nights’ latest recruits, Nukuluk, are playing a highly anticipated Bristol show at The Crofters Rights on Saturday 18 February 2022.

The group’s debut in the city was originally scheduled for December 2021 but was rearranged due to Covid, support for this show comes from Biped and Quade.

Tickets for this show are still available and can be purchased from the event page.

Having released their debut EP ‘Disaster Pop’ last year, the London-based collective have gone from strength to strength rapidly, attracting critical acclaim from well respected publications such as The Quietus.

Backed by progressive Bristol label Spinny Nights (Grove, Robbie and Mona), Nukuluk’s material is chaotic and radical. The music began as production sketches by co-vocalist Syd before a full band of Monika, Louis, Olivia, and Mateo translated it into ‘Disaster Pop’.

The project offers a fresh perspective to the UK alternative scene with points of comparison being trip-hop artists such as Massive Attack and Tricky, Avant-pop legend SOPHIE and experimental rapper Danny Brown.

‘Disaster Pop’ clearly demonstrates the diverse nature of these influences. Vocalists Syd and Monika expertly express both sorrow and pain through both their contrasting vocal styles and lyrics that explore issues such as the immigration system and racism in modern Britain.

There is an incessant and aggressive energy to these tracks that is a direct product of the music’s complex layers as vocals, guitar, synth and samples come together to create something truly radical.

However, there are also moments of disarming tenderness throughout the record as the many layers of noise are suddenly torn away to leave something sparse and compelling.

Support for the show at The Crofters Rights on 18 February comes from Bristol act Biped and Quade. To find out more about Nukuluk, head to their Facebook page.

Tickets for the show can be found on the event page.
