Australian punk band The Chats are coming to Bristol

Posted on: 23 Dec 2021

The self-declared ‘shed rock band’, known for their comedic lyrical content, are playing O2 Academy Bristol on Monday 28 March 2022 as part of a run of shows around the UK.

The Chats are visiting Bristol as part of a long-awaited UK tour that was originally supposed to promote the release of their 2020 debut album - High Risk Behaviour.

Tickets for the show can be purchased from the event page.

Formed in Queensland, Australia in 2016, the band’s introduction to popular music was an unusual one – particularly for a fledgling trio of DIY punks.

The high-school friends went from zero to hero in 2017 when their song ‘Smoko’ (and the accompanying music video) went viral. Their EP, Get This in Ya!, was released in the same year – cementing The Chats’ up-and-coming status.

Citing the Sex Pistols and Black Flag amongst their influences, the band are known for their energetic and beer-soaked live shows. Their material blends a range of sub-genres including pub rock, punk, hardcore, garage and surf punk.

They are known for their highly comical attitude to music – something that is reflected in both their lyrical content and the music video for ‘Smoko’. The low budget video and catchy track quickly became a viral success, piquing the interest of celebrated musicians such as Josh Homme and Dave Grohl and Iggy Pop.

Having signed for Universal, The Chats released their full-length debut, High Risk Behaviour, in 2020 to critical acclaim from the likes of NME and The Guardian. The band were supposed to be touring the record in the UK in 2020, however, this was put on hold by the ongoing pandemic.

Now, two years on from the album’s release, The Chats will be embarking on a March 2022 tour that sees them playing venues in Southampton, Nottingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Brighton, and London. To find out more about the tour and what The Chats are up to, head to their website.

Support for the tour comes from London based hardcore/pup rock band Chubby and the Gang so expect this to be raucous and lively affair.

Tickets to the show at O2 Academy Bristol on 28 March 2022 can be found on the event page.
