The People's Republic of Stokes Croft (PRSC) are hosting a special festive edition of their People's Art Fair this month, inviting locals down to their Jamaica Street HQ for a seasonal celebration of Bristolian creativity.

Opening today (Thursday 9 December), the ten-day event will be showcasing everything from locally-made artwork to live music, poetry and spoken word, with a series of workshops and a Christmas Market also included in the programme.

More than forty Bristol-based artists will be taking part, including punk outfit Criminal Mind, illustrator Marta Zubieta and mixed media artist Lisa Travers among others.

Hosted several times throughout the year, the People's Art Fair is a collaborative group exhibition, devised by the PRSC and open to all artists.

The PRSC themselves say the event "follows the principal that together we are greater than the sum of our parts, and demonstrates that bringing together artists involved in individual creative practice produces something unique and special."

Embodying the Art Fair ethos, featured artists help to hang, manage and promote the show together. Organisers aim to break down barriers to the art world and challenge the exclusivity that pervades many gallery shows.

Alongside tonight's launch, the PRSC will be hosting the first of three Domino Painting workshops. From there, attendees can enjoy a drop-in Collage Club with local artist Octopus Odyssey (11 December) and a Lofi Musical Workshop led by X in O (12 December).

From there, a selection of local musicians and poets will be taking part in an intimate evening of live performance on 16 December, before the Suspicious Jazz Roll-Ups host The People's Jam Session on Friday 17.

A Winter Ark Market will be running over the final days of the festive People's Art Fair, open from 12:00-18:00 on Saturday 18 and 12:00-17:00 on Sunday 19. Visitors can browse a wide range of locally-made gift ideas and goodies, directly supporting Bristol artists in the process.

More events are still being added to this year's festive Art Fair, so keep an eye on the PRSC website or find the collective on Twitter to find out more.
